Vee packing is designed as chevron v packing. Each set is generally composed of three or five V-shaped seals. Multiple V-shaped seal groups can also be combined according to the needs of actual working conditions.

What is vee packing?

Vee packing seal is a seal with a V-shaped cross section. It is widely used and can seal shafts or holes. It can be installed and used in combination and is applied to high—and low-pressure water-pressure and oil-pressure machines.
It is especially suitable for harsh working conditions such as high pressure, large diameter, high speed and long stroke. It is a relatively strong seal ring among seal products, which can work normally under terrible conditions and has a long service life.
Chevron vee packing seal can be combined best to adapt to height and various uses. It can work even under poor surface quality and is suitable for occasions with rapid pressure changes.

Sealing Principle

The installation form of the v packing seal is shown in the figure. It is used to seal the double-sided oil-inlet piston in the hydraulic cylinder. In the free state, the lip has a “self-sealing” effect. When the liquid pressure acts, the pressure changes the contact state of the lip and increases the contact stress, making the lip contact more closely with the hole or rod, making it more difficult for the medium to pass through. Even if it passes through the lip of the first vee pack seals, the pressure is greatly reduced. When it passes through the lip of the second v pack seals, the pressure is reduced again. If it continues like this, the internal pressure will be consumed. Finally, the leakage is stopped, producing a good sealing effect.

Vee packing Sealing Principle

As shown in the figure, after installation, the elastic sealing ring and V-ring have a specific interference with the working surface of the steel cylinder and piston and play a sealing role simultaneously. The elastic sealing ring has a slightly larger interference than the V-ring, so the sealing effect is greater than that of the v packing seal; when there is no pressure or low pressure, the sealing is achieved by its interference or by the pre-pressure of the elastic sealing ring and vee packing seal through the gland, so the inner and outer lips have a self-sealing effect; when used at high pressure, the elastic sealing ring and V-ring fully act on the pressure surface with the help of the liquid working pressure, so that the working sealing lip is well expanded, pressing the sealing surface of the cylinder and piston to achieve the purpose of sealing.

Features

  • The number of sealing rings can be selected according to the pressure used.
  • A certain amount of eccentric load and eccentric movement is allowed.
  • If the vee packing hydraulic sealscombined sealing ring leaks during use, the sealing effect can be obtained by adjusting the clamping mechanism to tighten it again.
  • When the packing cannot be loaded from the axial direction, it can be split vee packingand used. When installing, the split are staggered at 90 degrees.
  • The surface roughness value of the mating surface can be larger than the surface roughness value of the mating surface of otherhydraulic seals.
  • No anti-extrusion measures are required when used under high pressure.

Material

  • Pressure ring:  nitrile rubber fabric, fluoro rubberfabric, nylon, polytetrafluoroethylene;
  • Fabric rubber V-ring:  nitrile rubber fabric, fluoro rubber fabric;
  • Rubber or plastic V-ring:  nitrile rubber fabric, fluoro rubber fabric, polytetrafluoroethylene;
  • Support ring:  nitrile rubber fabric, fluoro rubber fabric, nylon, polytetrafluoroethylene.

Design Principles

  • Chevron packing sealcan be used as piston seals or piston rod seals. Since they are standardized, the main design work is to determine the structure of the sealing part, select its material and number of rings, and determine the material and size of the supporting ring and pressure ring used.

The size and adjustment method of the chevron v packing clamping force must be considered during design because it is related to the sealing performance. Generally, adjusting the gasket is adopted . The adjustment amount can be accurately controlled after the thickness and number of gaskets are given. It can also be adjusted by using nuts or springs (as shown in the figure)
